Applied to the bottom of a seine to help move across a muddy bottom. In doing so the mud rollers, which contain a slight buoyancy, have openings that take in mud and immediately release the mud through the use of the specially designed holes in the roller. Without mud rollers, a seines bottom line would typically catch mud and slow down the operation.
